Tools of the trade

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before but in a previous lifetime I played racket sports.

Firstly badminton (because it’s “our family sport”) and then after I broke my Achilles and decided that badminton was dangerous I took up squash, which in turn blew out my knee and I had to have it surgically repaired.

To cut a long story short the main two points I’m trying to convey are ..

1) Racket sports are hazardous to your health
2) My knee is f**cked.

Which is the background info you need to know before I go into my ramble for the day ..

I’ve been having some issues with my knee, but that’s just normal for me. It’s one of the reasons – actually the main reason that I have never been a runner, because well running = pain. My knee has been sore on and off for a couple of weeks and I just train through it.

Yesterday during my run it got to a point where I thought .. “Right time to hit the physio and learn how to strap this sucker” Especially since I was beginning to look like I had Tourettes when for no apparent reason to the people around me I would suddenly start swearing.

So I rang the physio as soon as they opened and managed to get a lunchtime appointment that same day *yay* I’ve damaged the medial ligament of my knee *boo* so I was instructed to ice the knee after training, watch TV with heat pack each night (ok he didn’t actually mention the TV I just “assumed” that part), no hill climbing on the bike and no running till at least Sunday and if any of my training caused pain I had to stop. Apparently pain = No Healing = Bad.

I explained all this information to James basically so he would run around after me and it worked, he dutifully made my coffee and heated up my wheat bag when asked. But he may not be so obliging after reading this blog entry. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And before you ask – no James didn’t actually drive to Starbucks and then profess his love for me on the coffee cup, but I’m sure he would have ..

Anyway last night James inquired about what my plans were for the following day ..

Me *without hesitation*ย  “It’s Friday so that’s Ludus in the morning then swimming at night.”

Jamesย  “You just told me you aren’t allowed to run”

Me *rolls eyes* “Oh I’m sure he meant I can’t run a long way

James “Did the physio actually say “You can not run a long way OR that you can’t run”

So I obviously stopped the conversation at that point and packed my bag for Ludus … like you do ๐Ÿ˜‰

HOWEVER after trying to do the four Ludus running laps in between each exercise this morning I did succumb and I skipped instead – I just chose a runner who was starting their run at the same time I was supposed to run and skipped till they got back. Where there is a will there is always a way. ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of Ludus – I’m being joined by this fit looking bunch at Ludus tomorrow morning.

Well bar James because he’s on babysitting duty and Amy because she has better things to do like play netball. I have however offered to eat their share of the post workout food at our cafe stop. The things I do for love!

Till next time
