Sharing is caring
I’ve met a few of my blog peeps on my “travels” and I still find it surprising when someone comes up and says “I read your blog”.
One thing I have noticed about my blog peeps is that most of you are somewhat more youthful than yours truly so I thought today I’d play “Mum” (guess its helpful that I am actually one) and share my top 10 training “tips”.
1. Lululemon makes your arse look AMAZING!
An extraordinary number of my friends who live in the US and Canada used to rave about Lulu and how the four way stretch made your arse look fabulous with a capital F. I was a non believer until I tried on a pair of their tights. OMG!
And if you don’t believe me here is a quote I found online at Confessions of a Crossfit Coach
“LuLu Lemon rocks. I mean, thank the f-ing GAWDS for LuLu. Why? Because it turns the most mundane, boring female ass into a f*cking work of art. And I’m not even joking. I don’t know if it’s that strategically placed horizontal strip, the material, or what, but it’s magic”.
2. Squats combined with Lululemon make your AMAZING arse look AMAZINGER
I only found this out recently .. you can thank me later.
3. What you eat actually does matter.
I still stand by the fact that you totally CAN out train a shit diet BUT until you eat “well” (Paleo, Primal, Hunter/Gatherer) you will never realise how long you walked around feeling like shite.
4. What you eat is more important than what you lift.
Quality in = Quality out. If you eat well – you lift well – you’ll get stronger.
5. Being strong is good
You may think I’m jumping on the “strong is the new skinny” bandwagon but a) I’ve never wanted to be skinny and b) I was strong back when “Just do It” was the latest catch phrase 😉
But I digress .. strong = good. Strong people are harder to kill and are more useful when it comes to moving house.
6. Training your weaknesses is depressing
Some days just give yourself a break and do something that you totally rock at (or something you find fun!)
7. Rest is not a swear word
Think of yourself as a fine automobile. How long do you think it would last if you drove it day after day as fast and as far as it could go? Even if you kept putting in fuel and water in it without a service one day it would blow up during your drive (probably enroute to the gym).
One thing I learned during my bodybuilding days is this – you don’t get bigger and stronger at the gym during training. You get bigger and stronger during REST!
8. Rolling around on the floor is not just for kids
Mobility, Mobility, Mobility! Do it often! Not only will your body thank you for it, but you’ll be able to lift more which will make you stronger (see point No.5)
9. Technique is everything
Anyone can snatch some gigantic amount of weight from the ground to above their head, but the idea is that you want to be able to do it over and over and over again, without injuring yourself.
Leave your ego at the door, lighten the load, go through the full range of motion – don’t cheat yourself.
(This one is a biggie for boys) – It’s honestly NOT what you lift – It’s absolutely and positively HOW you lift it.
10. There is life outside of training.
Sure its awesome to get stronger, fitter and faster but what is the use of that if you don’t get outside the gym and use it in the real world?
When I tell people “training for life” I actually mean it .. run, jump, swim, do handstands in the park with the kids, play a sport.
Get outside and live life (while looking hot) 😉
Till next time
