I never really believed my Mum when she used to tell me that wisdom comes with age. I figured it was her “get out of jail free” card when we were having a “meaningful discussion” about something and believe me when I was younger we had many a “meaningful discussion”.
It’s funny how when you are little you think your Mum knows everything, then you get to the teeen age years and think your Mums knows nothing.
Then as you get to an “advanced” age you understand that while your Mum may not know “everything” she does in fact know a thing or two.
My old age “super power”? .. Perspective ..
Probably not as cool as being able to rebound bullets by using gold wristbands like Wonder Woman or being able to look sexy in a black pvc suit like catwoman but perspective is not something to turn your nose up at.
Perspective helps me revel in all the “small stuff” because I understand that big gains come from lot’s of little victories combined. After all I didn’t lose 40 kilos in a week, I lost it kilo by kilo over many, many, many weeks.
This morning I lifted 2.5 kilos more than last week. That’s two teeny 1.25 kg plates on each side and while that may not seem like a significant amount, to me it was a high five moment! After all progress is progress, no matter how small it is.
Next time you find yourself lamenting about how “everyone” is better, faster or stronger think about my 2 tiny weight plates and get yourself some perspective. It’s easy to forget just how far you have come if you only look at how far you think you have to go!
Till next time
