RECOVERY WEEK
Week 16/37 – Road to Routeburn
The week where it wasn’t all about running ..
With my big event last weekend – this week was all about recovery.
I’d walked the day after my half marathon (Sunday) and I also walked the first cardio session of this week. On Wednesday I had my first “proper” run and although it was only short I felt so good that by the time my Friday “long” run came around I was raring to go even though it was pouring down with rain.
Kind of symbolic right – I’m out there filling my cup .. 😉
Sunday’s usual long run was replaced with a super short session – so short that I really didn’t want to drive out to my usual haunts as I’d end up driving longer than the actual run – so I headed out to Riverhead instead as it’s much closer to home.
Haven’t been to this side of Riverhead in so long that most of the forest has actually gone (which was slightly disorientating) but my goal was to run up this one hill I’d never been able to get to the top of – well, training has paid off as I nailed that sucker! Glad it wasn’t sunny though as I’m guessing that hill would be a killer if it was hot – not so sure I’d be nailing anything in the heat of the day. 😉
Anyway – recovery week has been duly been undertaken even though (as you’d probably guessed if you’ve known me for any length of time) I was bored out of my brains. Downtime is not really something I’m used too.
BUT I’m older and “wiser” so have put all of the planning into the hands of someone who knows far more about this stuff than I do and *shock horror* I listen .. I know .. who would have thought. 😉
Till next time
