Life is too short

The unthinkable happened today and a child was taken before their life had even begun.  As a Mum my hearts aches for the family involved and it sends a stern reminder to us all that life is far too short to be wasting time doing things that you don’t love whole heartedly.

It got me thinking about how I spend my waking hours and if in fact I am doing things because I love them or “just because” ..

Which brings about the questions what do I love?

I guess there is the obvious things that probably don’t even need to be mentioned because well they are no brainers.  These include the kidlets, J, my family, shoes, and dessert.

Then there are the things that make me feel good from the inside out.  Things that make me a healthier & happier me.  This list would include Ludus (there really is NO place like it people!) and spending time with my girlfriends (who I like to drag along to Ludus – killing two birds with one stone) 😉

And after being injured this week and on an “enforced running ban”  I’ve found out I actually love to run, who would have thought?!?!

There have been times when I couldn’t bike because my bike was being repaired and there have been times when I couldn’t swim because of my bung shoulder and I can’t say that I was sorry about it but I’ve actually really missed running.

It helps that I can also eat dessert if I run – I guess that’s an influencing factor. 😉

So what does this mean?  Heck I have no idea – really I’m just thinking out loud.

Should I marathon instead of ironman?  Should I do short course tri’s for “fun” over summer because I’ve learnt how to swim and bike? Should I do the stroke and stride series because it’s something J and I can do together? (J can’t ride a bike because of an old injury) Should I do the half ironman just because I said I would?

Or  Should I just flag it all and get fat? .. 😉

The one thing I do know is that this week I’ve REALLY enjoyed my training. I’ve done about a million burpees, smacked the shite out of stuff with a sledgehammer, thrown sandbags around and nearly kept up with the boys!

This weekend involves spending time with family and friends, food, ludus followed by more food, running AND then some more food.  It’s going to be a good one!

Till next time

Who would have thought you loved running?! What a fun thing to find out. In the midst of all of this, I have realized that beyond the obvious answers, it is important to do and enjoy the small things in life that you love. Like dessert! 😀
