ACTIVE RELAXER

Week 22/37 – Road to Routeburn 2025

It’s Christmas Week!

To celebrate, both James and I headed into the forest to get our training done before Christmas Lunch. I had hill session – which I wasn’t super keen to do, but I actually “enjoyed” it – not in the actual sense, but I enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment when it was finished.

Friday’s run was probably my fave of the week. I ran the same course I’d hiked the week prior in Riverhead Forest and felt strong and steady, however about 2km from the finish my left hamstring was super tight (I actually though I might be getting cramp) and it stayed that way all day, so Saturdays 3-4 hour hiking session almost didn’t happen as I woke up still limping.

I took some poles and figured I’d walk slowly and could turn back (or take a short cut). Thankfully I didn’t have too, but I did take it super easy and I only aimed for 3 hours opposed to the 4 I’d originally planned on doing.

Pretty bummed actually because it’s the holiday season and I’m one of those odd people who like being active to relax .. and now I’m trying to be cautious. Luckily I have a few art projects to keep me busy.

And in cause you are wondering if I got any running related Christmas Pressies ..

Not really – unless you count scorched almonds (great running fuel btw) although I did gift myself a Trailforks subscription because if you have been following me for any length of time, you’ll know I have a tendency to get lost.

Till next time

PS – Only 104 more sleeps till Routeburn.
