Whats stopping you?

I have developed a habit lately .. or maybe its more of an “attitude”

I hear about something (for example the Mud Run) and I think “Oh why not, I’ll give it a go” and I sign on the dotted line, write it on my calender then turn up and give it a go (usually without training – but that is a whole *other* matter) 😉

Last week on one of the numerous voucher sites that have started up there was a deal for three boxing sessions at boxslim.co.nz for $10.00 which seemed like a bargain to me AND they ran classes about five minutes away from my home.

Obviously I took this as a *sign* that boxing and I were meant to be, so I purchased a voucher and put the word out on Facebook in case any of my friends were interested.

When I talked with people about how I was going to give this boxslim “thing” a go some of the responses I got surprised me.  They included;

  • “Oh no – I’d die”
  • “I think I need to lose some weight first”
  • “I’m far to unfit to do that, I will start with walking”

Ummm … come on people – Carpe Diem!

I  never would have found my beloved Ludus if I had that attitude!  Although to be fair before I walked into the Arena I was shit scared that I was going to die, that I was too fat and unfit and that everyone was going to laugh at me but I survived.  Heck I got my butt kicked, but I survived.

The best compliment I have ever received was from my friend Donelle.  I told her that I had signed on to do a quarter marathon with my friend Kate to keep her company (even though I hate running).  She said to me

“That’s what I love about you – you will give anything a go”

So please don’t let ANYTHING hold you back ..

I promise you that most people are far too busy thinking about themselves to notice the uncoordinated “newbie” at the back and you could just find yourself an entire new family!

And if you really want someone to hold your hand, come along to boxslim.co.nz on a Wednesday night or Ludus (basically anytime lol) and I will be there to make sure

  1. You don’t die
  2. No one laughs at you
  3. That you have GREAT FUN and more importantly a GREAT WORKOUT!

Till next time

Well said! I just read this out to my sister who used the excuse of “i want to lose weight before i do an exercise class”. She felt suitably ashamed!

YES! What doesn’t kill you makes you even more fabulous. Julia you are a total inspiration and I love the ‘can and WILL do’ attitude that you have. Kicks me in the arse every time.
