Road to Routeburn – Week 4/37

The week I followed the instructions to a T!

Friday is a run day and although the time/distance can change week to week, it’s generally a run and some kind of mobility work along with some run specific strength activities.

This week the schedule had;

Easy Run – 1:15

Post Run Plank 2x 2minutes

I thought to myself .. hhhhmmm that’s going to be a tad impractical, did Coach forget I primarily run trails, I mean sure, this is probably fine for all those people who just run from their house, but for us trail runners this means getting down in the dirt/mud/gravel.

I figured it must be super important – it must have something to do with teaching your core how to go that extra bit further even when it’s already tired, otherwise it wouldn’t say post run, it would just say plank – this was a very specific direction.

So I throw one of the gym mats in the car and dutifully plank in the carpark after I’d finished the run (thankfully no one arrived or left during that period, because I probably looked a bit odd).

Get home and mark the activity as being complete – coach then sends the following message

You are nuts, didn’t want to do it at home then hahaha

Coach Maree

WTF?!?! I didn’t even know that was an option!

LOL – so yeah, I’m pretty extra ..

Training bit’s in bob’s

First week where I was back into training after being sick for the entirety of last week. I’m still pretty congested so it was all hard, but it got somewhat easier as the week went on however my nose ran like a tap out on the trail today (Sunday) so that was SUPER annoying!

Saw Jo twice (because I was sick and didn’t get to do any weight training with her last week).

Ran 4 days (including a recovery session and hill session) 29:47km / 4:51:05

Did yoga or some kind of mobility every day.

Still doing physio exercises, but these have decreased from daily to 3x week.

The Rainbow?

I always try to find something good about any training session I do during the week – because quite frankly some weeks are just pretty shite and you need to remind yourself that there is always some kind of positive you can take away.

This week – it’s that I’m breathing better and I got outside and moved my body.

A semi training related positive is that they also reopened the section of Bethells Road that seems to have been closed for FOREVER, so we now don’t have to drive so far to get to the Long Road trail.

Till next time
